What Is Otomize Ear Spray?
Otomize is the brand name of an effective antibacterial ear spray used to treat external ear canal infections. The fast-acting spray contains the following active ingredients: neomycin, acetic acid, and dexamethasone. This highly effective medication works by relieving inflammation of the ear infection, as well as any itching or pain. Taking this treatment within 24 hours after the first signs of an external ear infection could help speed up your recovery time.
What Is Otomize Ear Spray Used For?
Otomize ear spray is mainly used to treat ear inflammation between the entrance of the ear and the ear drum. However, you cannot use this medication if you have a perforated eardrum. Otomize is for external use only. You cannot use it to treat a blocked ear.
How Does Otomize Work?
Otomize ear spray treats outer ear infections by reducing inflammation and fighting the infection. The balance of its three active ingredients (neomycin, acetic acid, and dexamethasone) works together to ease symptoms such as swelling and pain. Simultaneously, Otomize ear spray binds with bacteria in your body to kill them off.
A successful application is required for the medication to work. Simply spray Otomize into your ear canal three times a day.
Your symptoms should ease within 48 hours of using Otomize ear spray. However, if your symptoms have not improved within seven days of use, you should discuss them with your doctor.
Otomize Ear Spray During Pregnancy
Speak to your doctor if you are pregnant or trying to become pregnant and want to use Otomize ear spray. There is not enough adequate data on the use of dexamethasone in pregnant women. Therefore, it is not recommended that pregnant women use this medication. It is important to consult your doctor, who will explain the risks of Otomize ear spray for pregnant women.
It is also not recommended for breastfeeding mothers to use Otomize ear spray. It could put both yourself and your child at risk. Always consult with your doctor before using it. If you are pregnant/breastfeeding and are using Otomize ear spray without permission, you must stop the treatment as soon as possible and speak to your doctor/GP.
Otomize vs EarCalm
Both Otomize and EarCalm are medications used to treat external ear infections. Both are very effective at managing external ear infection symptoms - while reducing pain and swelling of the ear canal.
Additionally, the side effects of the two seem to differ slightly. EarCalm can cause irritation of the ear canal. Whereas, Otomize side effects may include a temporary stinging or burning sensation, irritation, or rash. Unlike Otomize, EarCalm contains one active ingredient (acetic acid). It is effective at treating mild outer ear infections. Otomize is effective at treating mild to moderate outer ear infections.

Each bottle of Otomize ear sprays contains 5ml of product. It contains 0.2% dexamethasone, 0.5% neomycin, and 2% acetic acid. You should spray one dose of Otomize - three times a day. If you miss a dose, you should take it as soon as you remember. Always follow the advice of your doctor or online pharmacist before using the medication.
How Long Does Otomize Take To Work?
Otomize ear spray should work relatively soon after taking the first dose. You should notice that your symptoms have started to ease. However, if you have been using Otomize ear spray for seven days and do not notice any improvement, speak to a doctor. They will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take.
If you have been using Otomize for several days - and notice minor improvements, avoid using it for more than ten days. Your infection should be cleared, and if it is not, you will need to consult with your doctor/GP.
How to Use Otomize Ear Spray
You should use Otomize ear spray if you have an outer ear infection - and a doctor has prescribed it. Before using the medication, read the patient information leaflet inside the pack. This will give you detailed information regarding recommended dosage and how to use it.
Shake the Otomize container gently and hold it away from your face. Continuously press downwards on the pump until you can see a fine spray disperse. Avoid inhaling the mist as you do this, and do not direct it at anyone in the room. Place the tip of the nozzle into your ear and press downwards on the pump once. You should use one spray of the medication three times a day.
You should use Otomize ear spray for two days after your symptoms have cleared. This will ensure that the infection is fully cleared and not still in your system. Avoid using the spray for more than seven days. If your symptoms have not cleared during this time, stop using the spray, and consult with your doctor.
Side Effects

Like all medications, Otomize ear spray users may encounter some side effects. Usually, these side effects will clear with the correct medical advice. Many users do not experience any side effects.
If you encounter any of the following symptoms after using Otomize, monitor the signs. If they persist - or worsen, consult a doctor or pharmacist as soon as possible. The following mild symptoms can occur:
