Wegovy Reviews: What Users Really Think

Wegovy, the new 'weight loss kid on the block' has had a significant amount of publicity. But what do users really think when it comes to how effective wegovy is?

Everyone and anyone can claim to be a medical professional on the internet, this can cause some confusion for patients when they search for accurate reviews on medicines. You want a realistic, unbiased review on what you would expect to feel when you are on a new medication - both the positives and the negatives. Which is why here at Cloud Pharmacy we have already done that hard work for you, trailing through the agony aunts and fake professionals to give you a legitimate review on all things Wegovy. In this week's article, we take a look at Wegovy; how it works, what you may experience whilst taking it, and how the public reviewed it.

What is Wegovy and What is it Used For?

Wegovy is a new medication brought out by Novo Nordisk. Novo has always been a big player in the diabetes market covering a range of products from insulins such as Levemir, Actrapid, and Novorapid. However, more recently they have branched into a class of diabetic medicines called Glucagon- like - peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists such as liraglutide (Victoza) and semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy). Wegovy, when used together with diet and physical activity,  helps people to lose weight and keep their weight under control. Due to the nature of Wegovy, it only has a few licensed indications, it should only be used in patients wanting to lose weight who have:

  • a BMI of 30 kg/m² or greater or
  • a BMI of at least 27 kg/m² but less than 30 kg/m² who have weight-related health problems like diabetes, high blood pressure, abnormal levels of fats in the blood, or a history of cardiovascular issues

Although obesity and overweight are associated with resistance to the plasma glucose-lowering actions of insulin, many other metabolic pathways remain responsive to insulin. The incretin GLP-1, through its receptor, increases survival of β cells and inhibits their apoptosis. Plasma concentrations of GLP-1 analogues are not increased in people with obesity or overweight and are, in fact, decreased in people with severe obesity. However, the insulin response to nutrient ingestion in such people is increased, suggesting that, as with glucose and non-esterified fatty acids, the β cell might become more responsive to the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists to modulate insulin secretion. GLP-1 receptor agonists such as liraglutide and semaglutide stimulate postprandial insulin secretion, reduce glucagon secretion, delay gastric emptying, and induce weight loss through reduction of hunger and consequent food intake. It can also increase the feeling of fullness in patients, and reduce feelings of cravings.

What Can I Expect When I Take Wegovy?

It is worth noting that every person that takes a medicine will have a different experience on it, and most of you will not experience any side effects mentioned but it is important to inform you of what is a common side effect, and what needs urgent attention. Thankfully, the vast majority of the side effects experienced by patients are rather mild and tend to be self limiting. The most common side effects reported, which is roughly 1 in 10 people, included headaches, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and abdominal pain.

Wegovy Reviews: What the Public Has to Say

As mentioned previously, you want an unbiased view on what you might experience whilst taking Wegovy, and is it as effective as Novo Nordisk claim? We look on our trusted site drugs.com to find out what people really think about this new “miracle jab”. On the site, patients can rate their experience of a medication based on efficacy, side effect profile, ease of use, and safety. Wegovy was able to score over 70% satisfaction from patients that were taking the medication. Whilst not everyone is going to get fantastic experiences on Wegovy, same as every drug on the market, for those that have there are some fantastic patient stories which are both incredibly encouraging and expected to see.

Of those patients that had fantastic results, they had reported:

“I am currently on my 9th injection today, being my 8th full week being on Wegovy. I have lost a total of 40 pounds so far. Appetite is definitely curbed. Sunday’s when I take the injection and it makes me tired. A lot of gas and the occasional runs, but the weight loss is worth the side effects.”

However, it seems that not everyone has as fantastic results as they would like, one patient had told us of their unfortunate experience of Wegovy:

“Took it for 8 weeks, made it through the 2nd titrated dose and couldn't handle it anymore. Nausea, gas, bloat, constipation, diarrhoea and it was worse at night while lying down.”

It is worth remembering though that every single drug that is available in the UK, from paracetamol to tramadol to amoxicillin will have different efficacy on other patients so do not panic! The evidence, patient experiences, and legacy of Novo Nordisk all speak for themselves and Wegovy truly is a game changer when it comes to weight loss. It is important to note as well that as effective as Wegovy is, it will only be beneficial to you if you want to lose weight yourself - this won't melt the pounds off you automatically - this is a helpful aid in the fight against weight loss and will show great results if part of a health and balanced diet, as well as regular exercise.
