Supporting Your Health with Vitamins and Supplements
Vitamins and minerals play essential roles in maintaining overall health, from supporting the immune system and energy levels to promoting healthy bones, skin and hair. While a balanced diet should provide most of the nutrients your body needs, certain life stages, dietary restrictions, health conditions or lifestyle factors can make supplementation beneficial.
The NHS recommends that most adults in the UK consider taking a vitamin D supplement, particularly during the autumn and winter months when sunlight exposure is limited. Pregnant women are advised to take folic acid and vitamin D, and some people may benefit from iron, calcium or multivitamin supplements depending on their individual needs.
Cloud Pharmacy stocks over 210 vitamins and supplements from trusted brands, including multivitamins, vitamin D, iron supplements, bone health products, and pregnancy support formulas. All products are dispatched by our GPhC-registered pharmacy team.
Who Are These Products For?
Supplements may be appropriate for:
- Adults looking to maintain general health with a daily multivitamin
- Anyone in the UK during autumn and winter (vitamin D is recommended for all adults from October to March)
- Women who are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding (folic acid, vitamin D, and prenatal formulas)
- People with dietary restrictions, including vegans, vegetarians, or those with limited sun exposure
- Older adults who may need additional support for bone health (calcium, vitamin D)
- People with diagnosed nutritional deficiencies or those advised by a healthcare professional to supplement
- Supplements are not a substitute for a balanced diet. If you have a medical condition or are taking prescription medication, consult your pharmacist or GP before starting a new supplement.
Important Safety Information
- Do not exceed the recommended daily dose stated on the product packaging - taking too much of certain vitamins (particularly vitamin A, vitamin D and iron) can be harmful
- Some supplements can interact with prescription medications - for example, iron can reduce the absorption of certain antibiotics and thyroid medications
- If you are pregnant, check that the product is suitable for use during pregnancy - some formulations are specifically designed for prenatal use (e.g. Pregnacare)
- High-dose vitamin D supplements (such as 20,000IU) should only be taken as directed by a healthcare professional for diagnosed deficiency
- Store supplements out of reach of children - iron supplements in particular can be dangerous if taken by young children
Available Treatment Types
Multivitamins
Daily multivitamins provide a broad spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals in a single tablet. Centrum Advance and Sanatogen A-Z are popular options offering comprehensive support for adults. Centrum Performance is formulated for people with active lifestyles, with added ginseng and B vitamins to support energy release.
Vitamin D
Vitamin D supports healthy bones, teeth and immune function. The NHS recommends that all adults consider a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (400IU) of vitamin D, particularly between October and March. Vitabiotics Ultra Vitamin D3 provides 1000IU (25mcg) per tablet, while HuxD3 offers a high-strength 20,000IU capsule for use under medical supervision in cases of confirmed deficiency.
Iron Supplements
Iron is essential for producing red blood cells and transporting oxygen around the body. Low iron levels can cause fatigue, weakness and poor concentration. Vitabiotics Feroglobin B12 is a liquid iron supplement that also contains B vitamins and folic acid to support energy levels and reduce tiredness.
Bone Health
Calcium and vitamin D are both important for maintaining healthy bones and reducing the risk of osteoporosis, particularly in older adults and postmenopausal women. Vitabiotics Osteocare provides calcium, vitamin D and zinc in a liquid formula. Macushield Gold is formulated to support macular health with a targeted blend of carotenoids.
Pregnancy and Conception
Vitabiotics Pregnacare is specifically formulated to support women during pregnancy and while trying to conceive. Pregnacare Conception contains folic acid, vitamin D, zinc and other nutrients to support fertility and early pregnancy. Pregnacare Original is designed for use throughout pregnancy, providing the 400mcg of folic acid recommended by the NHS alongside a balanced blend of vitamins and minerals.

FAQ
Do I need to take a vitamin D supplement?
The NHS recommends that all adults in the UK consider taking a daily supplement containing 10 micrograms (400IU) of vitamin D during autumn and winter (October to March), when sunlight levels are too low for the body to produce enough vitamin D naturally. People who have limited sun exposure year-round, have darker skin, or are housebound may benefit from taking vitamin D throughout the year.
Can I take multiple supplements at the same time?
In most cases, yes, but be mindful of overlapping ingredients. For example, if you take a multivitamin and a separate vitamin D supplement, check that the combined dose does not exceed the recommended daily amount. Some minerals (such as iron and calcium) can interfere with each other's absorption if taken at the same time, taking them at different times of day can help.
When should I take my supplements?
Fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) are best absorbed when taken with a meal containing fat. Iron supplements are best absorbed on an empty stomach, but can be taken with food if they cause nausea. Multivitamins are generally taken with breakfast. Follow the directions on the product label for best results.
Are supplements safe during pregnancy?
Some supplements are specifically formulated for pregnancy (such as Pregnacare), while others may not be suitable. The NHS recommends folic acid (400mcg daily) from before conception until at least week 12 of pregnancy, and vitamin D (10mcg daily) throughout pregnancy. Avoid supplements containing vitamin A (retinol) during pregnancy, as high doses can be harmful to the baby. Always check the label or ask your pharmacist.
