Overview

Mouth Ulcer Treatments

Mouth ulcers are painful sores that appear on the inside of the mouth, on the tongue, lips, cheeks or gums. They are usually round or oval with a white or yellowish centre and a red border. Most mouth ulcers are minor, heal on their own within one to two weeks, and are not a sign of anything serious. However, the pain can make eating, drinking and talking uncomfortable.

Over-the-counter gels and liquids can help relieve pain, protect the ulcer and speed up healing. Cloud Pharmacy stocks mouth ulcer treatments from trusted brands including Anbesol and Bonjela.

Important Safety Information

  • If a mouth ulcer has not healed within three weeks, is unusually large, keeps coming back, or is painless, see your dentist or GP for assessment
  • Bonjela Adult Gel contains choline salicylate and should not be used in children under 16
  • Anbesol contains lidocaine (a local anaesthetic) - do not exceed the recommended number of applications

Available Treatments

Anbesol Adult Strength Gel / Liquid (Lidocaine)

Anbesol contains lidocaine, a local anaesthetic that numbs the area on contact, providing fast-acting pain relief from mouth ulcers. It can be applied directly to the ulcer as needed. The liquid formulation allows precise application.

Bonjela Adult Gel (Choline Salicylate)

Bonjela Adult Gel contains choline salicylate, which has both pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. It is applied directly to the ulcer and provides soothing relief. Not suitable for children under 16.
