    How Does Metronidazole Work?

Metronidazole 400mg Tablets are a kind of antibiotic. Metronidazole tablets can be used for the treatment of bacterial vaginosis (BV); it is presumed that BV is often brought on by a change in the normal or natural balance of bacteria that live in your vagina. Metronidazole is able to help kill some of the 'bad bacteria' that infiltrates during BV infection and in turn helping to restore the 'friendly bacteria'.

Metronidazole (sometimes marketed under the name Flagyl) can also be used to treat a variety of different infections- however Cloud Pharmacy online pharmacy only provides it as a cure for bacterial vaginosis (BV) in women. it is an effective treatment for BV and is the first line treatment in the UK for non-pregnant women as stipulated by the National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Can You Treat Bacterial Vaginosis Online?

Metronidazole is safe and suitable to buy online from a either registered online pharmacies who have UK registered prescribers whom are also GPhC registered OR from online doctor services that are attached to online pharmacies.

Metronidazole can be purchased if you have previously suffered from or been diagnosed with BV by a registered doctor and successfully being treated. You will likely qualify for BV treatement online if:

    • You have been prescribed Metronidazole before and it has treated your infection successfully.
    • You have been diagnosed by a doctor before or have had a positive home test for bacterial vaginosis
    • You have a have symptoms of thin discharge which includes a fishy odour

If you do not have any of the symptoms that have been described or you have not suffered from BV before, you should see your GP or local sexual health clinic for further investigation.

If you are not sure if your symptoms are associated with BV, then you can use a home test kit for BV to correctly diagnose your symptoms. Vaginal discharge and odour can be associated with different infections such as some sexually transmitted infections (STIs). If you have had unprotected sex and believe you may have an STI, then you can use our STI home test kit to correctly get a diagnosis.

Metronidazole 400mg Tablets for Bacterial Vaginosis

Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) is not a sexually transmitted infection (STI). BV normally presents as a grey, white or yellow vaginal discharge that is thin or watery in nature; this is not to be confused with thrush, which is a fungal infection that often presents as a 'cottage cheese' type of discharge in women. BV is a bacterial infection.

BV does not often cause a rash or any lesions. This could be attributed to a variety of things such as something relatively inert such as foliculitis  or an STI such as genital herpes. BV is seldom associated with pain and inflammation in the vagina.

As stated, BV is much different from thrush. Thrush is a type of fungal infection caused by the fungus candida albicans. Bacterial Vaginosis occurs when there is a replacement of the natural vaginal bacteria with predominantly anaerobic microorganisms such as Gardnerella vaginalis and Prevotella, Peptostreptococcus and Bacteroides spp. Bacterial infections are treated with antibiotics and fungal infections, like thrush, are treated with antifungals.

Metronidazole tablets can be used to treat recurrent episodes of bacterial vaginosis. It is quite commong for BV to return three months after inital treatment. If your symptoms were completely clear after the initial treatement with metronidazole, then treating a repeat infection with of BV with metronidazole would be okay. if you have had BV infections more than two times in 6 months or four times in 12 months, then you must see your GP or sexual health clinic for further investigation.

Below is a metronidazole 400mg tablet review taken from Drugs.com which discusses it's effects in treating bacterial vaginosis:

"Ladies this antibiotic metronidazole WORKS for metronidazole BV!! I experienced no side effects & I’m on day 5 of the treatment. I never usually take antibiotics for anything but I had reoccurring BV along with thrush - my immune system has collapsed as a result from stress... day 2 into this antibiotic and all BV had cleared!!!! I am so so impressed with it. I experienced no side effects which was surprising as I’m really sensitive! Don’t let the reviews scare you - everyone’s bodies are so different. Sending all you ladies strength - BV is such an awful experience to go through! X"
